Graduated January 2023 with CS degree. Still haven’t found a entry level job yet. . .

As the title says. Graduated January 2023 with probably >800 applications so far. I have been making personal projects and just practicing for interviews in the mean time. I believe i have had roughly 10 interviews so far and have never gotten past the first interview screening. I graduated from a CUNY nyc school which has a decent reputation.

I have been doing online tutoring at another less reputable community college for 101 python/java classes for a few years now. It pays slightly over min wage and its easy work. My expenses are very small as i was working full time during college and didnt take out loans. Im not struggling to survive or anything like that, im comfortable, but i really want to get use out of this degree because it was pretty stressful to get. im sure some of u can relate.

Over the course of applying i have been interviewed by many people and its usually an easy question like “what is an object” followed by me asking the interviewer a question about the role. Then i talk about my personal projects and my one internship. the hiring manager ends the interview, a week later i sometimes move on to the next stage for OA or the other candidates have a more impressive background and i get cut, which is understandable.

I have received an offer from skillstorm which is a WITCH company but i rather not relocate just to be benched for 2 years in some random state. I also have confidence in myself to get a job without WITCH and have definitely improved my interviewing skills since i started searching 7 months ago. I want to land a entry level role and have taken peoples advice that i see online. I.e Applying to defense companies or helpdesk but even that seems extremely oversaturated with applicants.

I have recently started applying to several more helpdesk IT roles or any role to do with a software company not just swe roles and actually landed an interview for an entry level sales role. The guy who interviewed me said it would be possible to transition into engineering within the company but im not exactly fixed on working a sales job at a telecom company for who knows how long but the pay is better than my current job so i plan to take it 22/hr. I will definitely continue applying as i work there.

Tldr: have been having a rough time landing my first job 7 months after graduating is this normal in this current job market?

just feel like venting.
