What exactly is debt relief and what’s the catch?

So this person who I occasionally see in my recommended on YouTube has been posting about how she’s in $27k of credit card debt and has been slowly chipping away at it over the past few months, and then she just posted this video.

To summarize, she said that she found an unnamed debt relief company that had an A+ rating, so she called them up and they were “extremely nice“ and signed her up. She said that every month she pays a fixed amount of $503 (vs the $1.1k she was paying on all her cards every month) for “her lawyers” to negotiate with the credit card companies so she can pay off her debt with no interest and start saving the rest. She also said with this new plan she’s expecting to be debt-free in four years and implored everyone having debt struggles to look into debt relief.

Listening to her describe all of this sounded too good to be true and I’m wondering what’s the catch. If there’s anything at all I’ve learned over the years, it’s that there is no such thing as financial assistance without hooks in it.

Can someone explain to me what debt relief is and if it really does work in the way she described it??
