Thoughts about EV's from a recent EV owner (Ionic 5)

I've leased my Ionic 5 for the past 4 months. I traded in a CRV-Hybrid to get it because I had to buy my CRV Hybrid in crazy covid times and I didn't want to make $700 a month payments anymore. I don't like buying new cars and this is my first time leasing.

My situation is that I do not have an EV charger at home but I get it free through work. I do live in a horribly cold state where its -17 today.

My thougths are in 2026 when I have to decide on another car when my lease expires, I'm not sure I'd go EV again. The battery loss in the winter is insane. I mostly drive about 20miles to work and 20 miles home. By the end of my work day, I've lost about 20ish% battery if I'm lucky. This morning alone I lost about 18% just on my one way trip to work.

If I had a home charger then it might be different but I don't like having to depend on work to charge. I'm also fighting for chargers with other people (Usually not an issue since I'm here earlier than most people).

I miss the convience of gas and not having to worry about my car on a daily charging basis. If I don't charge it for 2 days in the winter, I'm basically on a 9-10 hour charge (6kwh) to get to 100%. I never charged it to 100% for the first 2 months I owned it (kept it at 80% because I heard it was better) but in the winter I needed to get to 100.

I'm not sure what your guys thoughts are but without home charging, I feel trapped at work at times where I don't feel like I can go grab lunch because the car is charging.

Minus the battery charging things, I love the car. Its great and I have no issues. I just don't think its something I'd ever get in Minnesota without having home charging so I don't have to deal with work. I prefer not having to think about my cars and with the EV, I feel like I'm having to plan if someone asks me to hang out to make sure I'm charged enough.

That's just my thoughts on my EV lease so far. There's a decent amount to like with the zip and overall the car is great but I'm also one of those people that never lets my gas tank to get under 50% and the range anxiety is still getting me with the EV.
