Locals in Goa are becoming intolerant
I have visited Goa in 2019 and 2021 previously. I can say that locals have become intolerant of tourists. Even for the ones visiting from Maharashtra who speak a similar language.
They pick up a fight unnecessarily and are not afraid of the police. We had an incident where a bumped into a local bike rider and barely brushed his front tyre. The rider made a scene and started recording us demanding us to compensate for the damage (there was none).
However, there was another local pedestrian who got involved and cooled the matter down explaining the rider that nothing has happened and let the tourists go. The rider then started arguing with the pedestrian to mind his own business and walk off. He also said the police is coming for us (no one did)
On the same day, we had stopped our vehicle for 20 seconds in front of a gate because we missed the directions of Google Map because of low internet connectivity near Dona Paula. A senior started honking as if we had blocked an ambulance and again threatened us in a similar manner that he will call the police.
The locals need to understand that the outsiders don’t make these mistakes on purpose, some people are sometimes lost and take some time to adapt to how things work locally. They can be a little more polite like they used to be. Goa definitely is seeing a sharp decline in visitors and can only get worse if incidents like these keep happening.
