No Interviews + Received Rejections. What should I look for incase I don't get in anywhere?

I had what I believed a competitive, albeit not perfect profile (2.5 years research experience in 2 labs, REU, 6 months industry experience, 3 very strong LOR from research experiences, middle authorship pub but 3.3 GPA in bioeng). So far 4 schools I applied to released interviews, and I've been rejected by 2 programs (one that I believed wasn't as competitive and more of a "safety"). I am waiting on 9 more schools but they are all super competitive BME/BMES programs (MIT, Stanford, UCB, Scripps etc.) so I really don't think I got much of a chance as I originally thought.

I still intend to to pursue a PhD specifically in immunology + engineering immune cells, I can't apply to any post-bacc programs because I am an international student (although I did my undergrad in the US). I'm not sure if I want to pay to do a masters and I am not sure what the options are if I want to try working as a research technician for a year (are labs willing to give international students research technician jobs?) What should I be looking into if I don't get in anywhere?
