Spartacat wearing Quebec Nordiques colours not cool with fuming Senators fans

Cyril Leeder, the club’s president and chief executive officer, went on TSN 1200 on Monday night to explain the decision to go to Quebec City for exhibition games in the first place and the picture of Spartacat in the old colours.

“We’re just trying to have a small nod to the Nordique fans,” Leeder said. “Those are the fans we’re most likely going to convert to Senator fans are people that have cheered for the Nordiques in the past. “We’re not likely going to convert somebody that’s living outside of Montreal and has been a Habs’ fan for the last 30 or 40 years. But if somebody was a Nordiques’ fan we probably have a shot because if they were cheering for (Quebec) they were probably not a Canadiens fan.”

Leeder repeated that this photo of Spartacat wasn’t meant to be a threat to the people of Ottawa and Andlauer is committed to having success in this market. “(The photo of Sparty) was nod. If we had a do-over on that one would we do that one differently? We probably would. I get the sensitivities,” Leeder added. “We’re pretty comfortable in our own skin here now with Michael Andlauer as our owner and the ownership group we have behind him.
