Museum wax. What do you use it for?

Hey everyone, My friend gave this to me as a housewarming gift since he knows I collect figures. I just don't know what it's really used for. He doesn't collect hot toys (he collects 4 inch vintage Star Wars figures) so he couldn't really give me an answer for what it was for. What do you guys use it for?
