Why tf do people like calling others "Western wannabe" over nothing

I posted a cute reel of me and my fiancee dressed up for halloween and it went sort of semi viral. For some reason, most people in the comments started hating on us calling us "western wannabe" and told us to respect our real culture and stuff. Honestly I just don't understand what we did that was so wrong, like we still did puja and celebrate diwali like normal, we just also dressed up for halloween. For context, I was literally born and raised in america. Growing up, I celebrated a lot of the festivals and customs over there, like I went trick or treating every year when I was a kid.

But even if I was raised in India, what is the problem with me celebrating a festival from a different culture. Nobody has any problems when other people celebrate christmas which is also a western holiday, so what's the problem here? Like everybody these days just calls each other "western wannabe" over nothing. I saw a reel where some Indian people were talking about their favorite songs and a lot of the comments were calling them western wannabes just because they don't listen to Indain songs.

Honestly it might just be on social media maybe but it feels like people are being way too judgemental over nothing.
