How to be honest with my provider

I have been waking up every couple hours for the past year now. Finally trying Lunesta - prescribed 1mg. Woke up once an hour. I made a poor decision and self-upped my dose to 2mg. Slept a little better but not really. Second night of 2mg I woke up once an hour again and I work at 6am so my day was heavily impacted by this. I don’t have my next appt for another 3 weeks and I can’t go on like this. Out of frustration and stupidity, I just took 3mg (max dose). I imagine it will not help. I know that when I see her in 3 weeks she’ll say “let’s up the dose to 2mg!”

Do I just make up a reason I don’t want to stay on lunesta? I don’t want to tell her I changed my own dose because I’m afraid she’ll stop seeing me (I’m an NP student and I would def drop a patient if they weren’t following prescribed dosages)

Please be gentle. I’m sure most people in this sub have felt the desperation to sleep. Just one night. I don’t need a lecture on why this was a bad choice, I need advice on how to approach the situation with my psychiatrist at my next appointment. Thank you!
