What makes housing so unaffordable?
Hey there everyone, we are having a Strong Towns Kelowna meeting this Tuesday, where we will be doing a presentation on housing in Kelowna! The Angus Reid Institute found that British Columbians rank housing and affordability as the 2nd largest issue facing BC today. All provincial parties have their own solution, but did you know that housing is under the jurisdiction of the city. So no matter who you support, we can start turning this ship around tomorrow! We have a tax system that punishes development and we have restrictive zoning laws that don't allow a neighbourhood to meet the needs of the people who live there. If you would like to learn more please do come to the meeting!
We are an advocacy group for municipal financial resiliency, stronger local economy, and transportation safety. Whether you have heard of Strong Towns or not this is a great way to meet people and advocate for a city that meets everyone's needs.
We will be meeting on the last Tuesday of every month. So the next one is on October 29th 7pm to 830pm. Please join the discord for details about the location! Or private message me.

The image depicts a story that is all too common, where the likely poorer families in the multi family unit right next to this single family home are paying over 10 times as much in taxes, despite being served by the same amount of services and infrastructure. We are not hear to blame anyone, this is just to point out one of the many things that are driving the cost of living up and can be fixed by Kelowna city council. For privacy we don't want to expose the details of these addresses but we will show the numbers of commerical properties in the meeting.
