Looking at relocating

I am itching to relocate at my job (US based) and I could get a job at my same company but in Montreal. I am also looking at domestic relocation as well as in the UK. I’m just itching for a change, and not because of US politics. I’m just bored and want a change and my wife wants a different climate.

So I have a few questions and hope someone could help so I can determine whether or not to spend the time to apply.

1.) how big of a problem is it that I do not speak French? I would obviously do my best to learn once there, but I’m not learning French fluently anytime soon. I know lots of people do not care for people who don’t speak the local language and that’s understandable. Just curious because of the bilingual nature of Canada.

2.) how are Americans received? I am aware of how obnoxious Americans are and what the deserved perception of us is. Would my family and I deeply struggle to meet anyone because of our nationality in addition to the language barrier. Not trying to criticize anyone for being hostile to outsiders, as that’s understandable in many cases.

3.) cost of living - how bad is cost of living? I’ve read about the housing crisis, but what about everything else? Is there a US city that Montreal roughly compares to as far as COL goes.

I am largely ignorant of this and understand if I am downvoted into oblivion, but figured I’d ask and hopefully get some feedback. Understand completely if you want me to get off your lawn/subreddit.
