Decided to upgrade to an i9-14900KS from an i9-13900K.
Parts coming in the next few days, along with an LGA1700 contact plate and some replacement PTM7950.
I do a significant amount of tweaking, and simply can’t push any more out of my i9-13900k. Unfortunately, I received one of the lesser binned ones, with a pretty low SP number, relatively speaking.
With the performance of the Ultra 9 285K being so subpar in its current state, I’ve decided to create the end all be all configuration for the LGA1700/Z790 platform.
Why not get a Ryzen 9000X3D? I already have an ASUS Maximus Z790 Hero motherboard.
I’m hoping to squeeze a final 5-10% of performance out of the platform over the next few months of tweaking, especially with some enhanced thermal headroom from installing a contact plate and using PTM7950 (which I previously applied on my 13900K, resulting in 10C drop just from that).
Along with some thoughtful AC/DC loadline calibration and some semi-aggressive LLC settings… amongst tweaked Turbo Boost/TVB parameters, best case scenario I’m looking to hit 6GHz all core whilst staying under 100C.
Hoping to hit the silicon lottery of the already top binned KS.
Not the cheapest decision to squeeze a bit more performance, but it’ll be a fun project over the Christmas holiday vacation.
