Possible CMV in First Trimester

During my 6-week appointment my doctor tested me for CMV and it turns out I had a recent infection within the last 4 months. If the infection took place prior to my pregnancy, there is nothing to worry about. However, it the infection took place after I became pregnant there is a 50-ish % chance that I passed the infection along to the baby. If I did pass along the infection to the baby, there is a 50-ish % chance that the baby will suffer from significant issues including deafness, microcephaly, brain damage, developmental delays etc. The worst part is I cannot get tested to determine if I passed the infection to the baby until I am at 21 weeks. I am currently just under 10 weeks.

This news is coming around the same time that the pregnancy was starting to feel real. And now I feel like I have to be very tentative about the pregnancy and distance myself from the excitement in order to avoid potential disappointment. 11 weeks feels like an impossible amount of time to wait to learn if my baby was infected and then be faced with the unthinkable choice of terminating the pregnancy.

Has anyone else been in this position? How did it work out?
