Dear teenagers…please tip your waiters!!! It’s how they make money

Servers in america don’t get paid hourly wage (or if they do, it’s like 2 bucks an hour). So when you go out to eat, if you don’t tip, the waiter basically loses money especially if there’s tip out.

As a waiter, even when teenagers are perfectly nice, they still never tip, so I feel like they don’t know that it’s not really optional. Like, I need money to pay rent, groceries, ect. It’s a huge deal to not get tipped or to get stiffed. So pleaseeeeee when you go out to eat factor in that the waiter is a human being trying to survive and set aside 20% for the tip. 😭🙏
