Applying to uoa, opinions on social life?

Hi, I am currently applying to various universities around the world, uoa being the single one I am applying to in new Zealand. I am American and looking to apply to other countries including UK, Canada, and Australia.

I've heard a lot of criticism from people saying that uoa lacks social life and that Aukland isn't that good of a city.

Can someone please confirm/deny these claims, and elaborate? I love the NZ vibes in general but I won't go there if it isn't fun.
