How did you live with a non-vegan SO?

Hi Vegans,

So I've been contemplating veganism for a while. Over the past few months, the idea of eating animal products just hasn't satisfied me like it once would have. Dairy products make me physically sick anyway.. I have also been dealing with some sh*t mentally/emotionally over the past year. I have been in kind of a stand still wondering where my morals lie these days and who I am/what kind of person I want to be.

One of my passions in life, and always has been since I was a child, is animals. Animal care and animal welfare. I am constantly telling my partner that were probably going to have a farm one day, and not the kind that sells things, the kind that rescues animals... the kind that just lets animals do their thing, and have a huge big multi-species family. He laughs, but... the more I think about it, the more serious I am. The more passion is sparked in me.

My partner and his father recently showed me a show called Meat Eater on Netflix Aus. In one episode, the host of the show is hunting with a tribe in Bolivia I think, and they hunt down a Howler Monkey, burn its fur off, skin it, and make a stew.. and at first I was obviously shocked and sad... and my partner and his dad were just laughing and saying "I couldn't do it. It has little hands.", and I was just thinking, "Why is that so different to eating chicken breast from the supermarket?".

Now, don't get me wrong, I love my partner sincerely, and I won't force him to do anything. I personally made the solid decision tonight to go Vegan, in all aspects of the lifestyle, not just the food part. My list of reasons to go vegan was significantly longer than the list of reasons to eat meat... which had 2, and they both revolved around my partner and his choices.

My question to you more experienced vegans is, if you had/have a meat-eating partner, how did you approach that?

Also if you have any vegan tips/books/youtubers (not freelee) to recommend to a newbie, please share!
